While the app works to do speed tests, I have to say the new UI is undoubtedly a regression from the previous version. Why should the network feedback portion of the app take so much of the screen? Please consider some UI tweaking.

New update is terrible. Very slow and will never finish the test and show upload speed.

Asking for feedback is very annoying and added in down detector just clogging it up. Also the Easter egg is now removed which is honestly sad.

Speedtest is ok. I like the old Downdetector better. Mainly because it allowed me to have favorites for ALL of my favorite applications

Ads taking over the entire screen was definitely a huge mistake by your devs, just uninstalled your app after so many years of using it.

hey i love the app and would rate it a five star. but im rating it one so i can get your attention. if anyone real sees this and yall are able too, please bring back the easter egg it adds a lot of character to the app and i love ookla’s story.

What did you guys do to this most recent update. I don’t want to constantly be asked how I feel about my provider. Also the app loads so slowly now it seems so bad.

I have been using this app since its creation in the early 2000’s. I worked in network cable installation & IT infrastructure. It’s been my go to app for IT services and operations for almost 2 decades now. You’d be surprised how many installers in the field trust & use this app. As well they’ve been consistently updating over the years to keep up with the growth & innovation in the field. You guys must have a great team of people there. Thank you.

The latest version has some UI faults that make it look like the needle is skipping instead of being smooth. Also the “Pure Black” UI isn’t pure black if it switch to the Navy Blue Background when you do a test. Additionally, I paid to get rid of ads, Feedback pop-up are just as bad as ads, I did not give you permission to start asking me questions.

Feedback adding to the Speedtest slowed down the test on my iPhone 15 pro. On the iPad Pro, the Speedtest is so small and feedback part took over. It’s very annoying to have feedback part on it. I’ve been using this app for many years and this update is so annoying. I wish there’s an option to take that feedback off.

Stop asking me to rate my provider every time I run a speed test. The new version is terrible. Will be cloudflare for speed tests now.

Sorry, but I absolutely hate the new UI. The all black theme is essentially useless, the scrolling design is not intuitive, and if one wants to share a screenshot of the key info from the test, it can not be condensed as small as before. Please revert back or give users an option.

ever since i switched to att fiber the app crashes after download test. it never does the upload test

I have spent around 1 year making my favorites in downdetector app and then Ookla combined that app into the Speedtest they made it bloatware by not migrating my favorites and just forcing me to use the bloatware version which now by default includes the downdetector application. Larger size of the app and slower response time of the app to open. Bad design!

The most important thing about this is fake 😂❤️

I have used the Speedtest app and website for years and I am a daily user of down detector. But DD is less useful to me than it once was due to the limitations placed on it since it became part of Speedtest. Those of us that use this as one of our tech support tools didn’t need to lose functionality with the merger. You needed to at least keep what we had previously and preferably make it better. Just something for you to think about!

I’ve been using it for years. Some internet providers also use it officially.

This version is really terrible! Everything destroyed! The speedometer is very annoying and has a terrible design.

After the latest UI update introducing new design and icons, Speedtest became extremely unresponsive and sluggish. Appears to run in 5FPS on my iPhone 13 PRO. This never happened before and my other apps works perfectly! Dear devs please fix it! Previous review The app was fixed and now is working again! A reliable tool to measure your internet speed. Recommended! Previous review: Since the last update the “let’s review your privacy options” keeps coming back on an infinite loop, preventing me to use the app at all. Even clicking on “Next” and then “Done” the popup shows up again, and again, and AGAIN. Dear devs please fix it!

The newest design is awful. Pure black stops being pure black. So much wasted space by the feedback tab. Numbers are smaller and more crammed in all places. Don’t forget the lag and, inconsistencies with results. Terrible update all along.

This app is so good if you’re somebody That can’t get good Wi-Fi And you need to call somebody that you love and it’s really important This is the app to go it might give you a little ad if you get the free version but it doesn’t matter

I usually never write reviews, but this update deserves to be rated. I’ve used this app for 15 years and have never had an update this bad. I paid for this app, so please remove ads and feedbacks.

The way the needle now moves has a jittery motion which imo is undesirable. It’s unpleasant and gives the impression there’s an issue with the throughput. Also the way the progress bar now moves (completely flat) reduces information about the speed test. Previously when it showed peaks and valleys of throughput it gave the user a better idea in quality. Additionally please add latency readings for download and upload on the Mac and Apple TV versions of the app.

The Downdetector part of this app needs to keep the map feature & the ability to add more than three favorites, just the same as the old Downdetector stand alone app did.

Been using this for years, it is what my ISP uses as well.

I want to have more than 3 “favorite” websites/services to monitor the status of. Don’t kill DownDetector. No one asked for this ensh*ttification.

This is what an app should be. You open it and it runs immediately. Speedtest is reliable and never crashes. I use it multiple times a week to argue with Xfinity

Don’t care at all for the new second pane for ratings at the bottom

I have the paid no ads version. Now on this new version they have added a new feedback section wanting me to rate my ISP. This pops up every time I use the app even if I already did the rating. This IS a sneaky form of advertising so it needs to be removed. FIX IT!

Not a fan of this new layout. Why does the feedback section almost take up half of the screen. Also when testing, the speed meter seems to lag on the animation.

if im logged into my account, typically the app will crash within 30 seconds of it being open on any device older than the 14 so im unable to even complete a speedtest and on my newer devices, the app will crash if i go to view all results. also, who decided to remove the ookla theme? that theme gave the app a good look and the new page when the test is complete looks cluttered.

I paid for no ads, but ever since the new update, I now receive company surveys while performing speed tests! Knock it off Ookla!

Another update and the app display has shrunk to less than half of the iPad screen, I guess this goes along with only 3 favorites. Looks like Speedtest has acquired Downdetector. Major disappointment is now I’m limited to 3 favorites. You have got to be kidding me. Also, if you don’t like the reviews, fix the issue or respond with why you can’t/won’t fix the issue. Don’t delete the reviews

I’ve been using the Ookla app for the past decade, and I personally think this is one of the worst redesigns they’ve done so far. I’m not a fan of the forced feedback and the new scrolling design. Hopefully they’ll significantly improve it and make it look a lot cleaner than it does right now. Edit: unfortunately they’ve made it worse by introducing icons that show how good your test is compared to Internet browsing, gaming, video playback, and video chats, and it makes no sense and seems arbitrary. It looks a lot more clunky and I wish they’d just make it more simple, and show these more detailed stuff in the “detailed results” feature of the app.

I’ve been continuously impressed at how terrible the design and components of the Speedtest app have become since 2021, but today’s new update is completely absurd. I hope Ookla fires the incompetent app designers that are somehow employed by the company. It’s impressive how every update manages to get worse, but this is really something else.

“Pure black” theme basically doesn’t exist anymore because they ignore that setting with the new animation overlay. No reason for the animations to be this busy. Let your power users choose to go back to the old design. While I’m at it, I paid for an “ad free” experience, and asking me every single time a test is complete if I would recommend carrier A/B/C, or how likely I am to recommend them to a friend or colleague on a scale of 0-10 after EVERY test is still an ad in my opinion. Oh, and please bring your VPN capability to macOS. Thank you.

Really good to test your speed and be aware of basic connectivity conditions, plus now it has test for video quality

The outage map was useful and was a part of the original Down Detector. Now it’s gone. Why?

Mac App Store version shows speeds in Mbps and iOS version shows speeds in MB/s with no obvious way to switch between units of measure in either app.

The only internet speed test app I’ve been using for years upon years and the only one that anybody who wants an unbiased and reliable speed test should be using.

I love this app and have used it for many years. Downdetector is very insightful. I hope they add the ability to choose more than 3 favorites with so many people using multiple streaming services now.

Why do you force us to click on your ads? They cover the whole screen and the X button to close doesn’t work. That’s very poor service.

I used to have Xfinity Internet. It was serviceable, but the speeds ranged considerably and inexplicably. Xfinity couldn’t tell me what the problem was, but it went on for years. Speedtest was helpful and tracking the good days and the bad days. Although Xfinity could not address the problem anyway. Coming up on two years ago, I got T-Mobile wireless home Internet. It started out good and it got much better. Speedtest allowed me to track its evolution. while I no longer tend to have Internet problems, there are days when a site doesn’t load right or something, and I can at least know that it’s not the Internet that’s the problem.
